When it gets nippy, it's time to get the mothballs out of the woollens. And when it gets any bit colder, its best to wrap up in the trench coats and blazers. Like the little black dress, or the good old jeans and T-shirt, blazers and trench coats for women are a must in every girl’s closet; they are, after all, the finishing touches in their wardrobe.

Long or short?

For women with a short stature, a short or medium-length trench coat is the best choice as it accentuates the height. Taller women, however, can carry off the traditional, long trench coat elegantly. Shorter women may also choose long trench coats, but then other measures need to be taken to give a false sense of height, such as heels.

Blazers, on the other hand, have little to do with height, and more to do with the body shape.

- Women with a straight body shape may choose blazers that cinch near the waist, so as to lend curves.
- For pear-shaped women, it is best to choose a cropped blazer, so that attention is diverted from the wider hips.
- If the midsection of the body is wider, choosing thing fabrics and longer blazers is a wise choice.

Single- or double-breasted style

Though the original trench coat was always meant to be double-breasted, blazers and trench coats for women now come in both single- and double-breasted varieties. For those who do not like to complicate the look, a single-breasted trench coat or blazer is ideal. However, double-breasted trench coats and blazers look classier and add volume, which works well for women with a skinnier frame. Fashionmia has a remarkable collection of blazers for women on sale that one can choose from, as per their body type.

Choose the right tone, silhouette and fabric

Blazers and trench coats have evolved a long way; they are now available in pop colours, printed patterns and in a variety of fabric like denim and leather. Ladies can choose from navy blue to black and beige coats, and may also prefer to lighten up the mood with a floral pattern. Lapels of blazers can be tweaked as per the existing fashion trends. Trench coats can be buttoned and belted or left open, perfectly complimenting the figure.

The best thing about trench coats and blazers is the number of ways they can be played around with. Every which way, it ends up looking graceful.
