A large number of people prefer natural remedies to treat their acnes and other skin disorders, instead relying on chemicals or medications. However, there is little evidence that natural treatments work, says Dr Anjali Mahto of the British Association of Dermatologists.
Do natural acne treatments work?
The short answer is No. Natural treatments are not developed to address the root cause of the issues. It might help in reducing inflammation, but not effective enough to cure dark spots caused by acne. The problem with acne is that most people look at it as a cosmetic issue. Actually, acne can happens due to many reasons rather than just clogged pores and bacteria. It could happen due to hormonal imbalance, family history, contact irritation, emotional & physical stress and many more reasons.
Some natural remedies for acne
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a common natural treatment for acne, but dermatologists suggest otherwise. This is because apple cider is an acid and what it does is chemically exfoliate the skin. However, it is quite harsher than other available acids for acne treatment such as salicylic, glycolic and lactic acid. Applying harsh agents like apple cider can cause further irritation to the skin.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. However, there is only limited data to support the claims. It may help with small-scale acne, but if you have moderate to severe acne, you may go for better treatments like Buy Tretinoin cream Australia.
Witch hazel
Both tea tree oil and witch hazel have anti-inflammatory properties and can help with acne breakouts. However, witch hazel contains alcohol that can dry out your skin, making it susceptible to more acne breakouts. The biggest risk with witch hazel is that it can irritate your skin, which is not a great idea provided you are already dealing with breakouts.
Green tea
Green tea bags are usually used for treating acne breakouts. Although it makes you feel good for a while, it does not target the underlying issue. There is only limited theory available on the anti-inflammatory qualities of green tea, which does not define how much green tea you should actually need to treat acne.
Honey
Honey’s anti-bacterial properties make it the most popular treatment for treating wounds and infection. However, its effect on acne is still not fully uncovered. It can moisturize your skin, but whether its work on acne is not known. We don’t know whether it will help or may the matter even worse.

Supplements
There are lots of supplements available in the market such as zinc and fish oil, which some people claim to work on acne. It has also been noted that taking high levels of zinc may help with some skin issues, but whether it includes acne or not is still a question. Zinc is good for health, but taking a high level of zinc may upset your stomach.
What treatments actually work on acne?
There are tried and tested ways to deal with acne and acne-related spots. The first step you should take is to ditch all perfume-based face washes. Use a mild or fragrance-free face wash containing salicylic acid. Go for skin cream containing salicylic acid, glycolic acid, vitamin A retinoids as they are known to help with acne. Most importantly, if your acne is moderate or severe, go for prescription creams like Tretinoin or Retin-A creams. They work best for acne, and spots. Besides acnes, Tretinoin is known to treat sun damage, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.
